Understanding Weighted Grades
Weighted grades are a way of giving different value to assignments, tests, or projects in a course based on their importance. For example, in a class, a final exam might be worth 40% of your grade, while homework might be worth 20%. Instead of treating all grades the same, weighted grades assign more importance to certain assessments.
Here's an example:
Homework: 20%
Midterm Exam: 30%
Final Exam: 50%
If you score 80% on homework, 70% on the midterm, and 90% on the final, your grade would be calculated like this:
Homework: 80% × 20% = 16%
Midterm: 70% × 30% = 21%
Final: 90% × 50% = 45%
Add those up: 16% + 21% + 45% = 82%
Your final grade would be 82%, which is a weighted average based on the importance of each part of the course.
This system helps make sure that the most important assignments have a bigger impact on your final grade.
