Part 1: Canvas Profile Setup

1. Add a picture to your Canvas profile. 

   • This can be a photo of yourself, a pet, a tree, or anything you like. Pictures make the class feel more personal than just a letter!

   • If you’re unsure how to add a picture, refer to these instructions.

2. Update your Canvas profile.
   If you don’t know how to do this, follow these instructions.

3. Set your Canvas notification preferences.

   • Canvas has default notification settings, but you can customize them to fit your needs. Notifications ensure you don’t miss important updates!

   • Follow these instructions to update your notifications.

Part 2: Understanding Grades

1. Learn about grades in Canvas.

   • The Grades page shows all your assignment scores for the course. To understand how grades work, read this page and watch this video.

   • This course uses weighted grades. Here’s the breakdown:

     • Introduction Assignments 10%

     • Unit #1 | Narrative 10%

     • Unit #1 | Narrative Essays 20% %

     • Unit #2: Summary/Response 10% %

     • Unit #2 | Summary Response Essay 20% 

     • %Unit #3 | Research Paper 10% %

     • Unit #3 | Research Paper Essay 20%
